Notepads are great tools for creative people. Just think about how many times you have forgotten a great idea, a solution to a problem that has been bugging you, just because of not having something to write them down.

I have plenty of times.

Frustration takes over when trying to recall the specific idea I had a moment ago. But in the end, it was a waste of time. I couldn’t recover it completely. So, I decided to address my inconvenience.

At first, I thought that the perfect solution was right in my pocket. My smartphone has an app that allows me to take notes with a stylus. The only problem is that I barely use it to write and rarely look back at the few notes I have taken. Plus, I easily get distracted by other apps.

Until one day, when I was at the convenience store, looking for some college ruled paper when I saw it. There was a pack of six notepads that I took immediately with me. I knew right away that they were what I needed. Since that day, I have been religiously carrying one in my pocket.

A notepad is a safe place to store information, ideas, and thoughts. They can’t be hacked or malfunction any time soon. Their only weaknesses are water and fire damage. But you can easily counter them by purchasing or making a case to shelter them from the elements.

My notepad has proven to be a very flexible tool. I generally write about topics for stories, ideas, and draw sketches. But sometimes, at work or when going out, I find myself needing to write down some information that I can’t trust my short-term memory to remember. Thankfully, my notepad and pen are always ready for action.

The convenience

I like to do things the old-school way.

Reaching down my pocket, pulling up my notepad along with a pen or pencil, folding it open, and starting to write down an idea feels fantastic. It is like when a detective is writing down the testimonies of some witnesses. In my case, it is more about thought and ideas that might be useful for later than solving a murder.

Carrying a notepad gives me confidence. I feel ready for almost anything. No matter the situation, I get myself stuck. I can always rely on them to find a solution. There are no limits to what you can do with one of these bad boys. Excluding the number of blank pages and ink, you have at your disposal.

Here are a few examples of what you can do with a notepad:

  • Note-taking
  • Sketching
  • Drawing
  • Writing
  • Bookkeeping
  • Mapping
  • Grocery Lists

For sure, I have failed to mention more, but you are smart and probably will come up with more applications for your necessities.

The best part is that you can do all of these on the go. There is no need to go back home when all you need is right in your pocket. So, when inspiration strikes, you will be ready to capture it.

The learning

My notepad is one of the best learning tools I have at my disposal.

The simple act of writing down information on it allows me better understand and remember them. That is why I like to write down information that I don’t fully understand, like words that I ignore the meaning of. Then, during my free time, I would look back at my notes to do some research, reread, and talk about it either alone or with someone close to me.

You can do the same or improve over what I do with a notepad. Perhaps, you can solve full mathematical problems with it or give it a specific purpose to aid your learning.

For example assigning a role to a notepad like one for creative work, another for taking notes of a subject, the colorful one for sketching, the possibilities are infinite.

Boredom killer

When going out. Either alone or with my family. I have been saved countless times from boredom thanks to my notepad. I can’t always rely on my phone and data plan to keep me entertained during long road trips or sitting in a waiting room.

Plus, it is rude not to pay attention to the beautiful landscape outside the window. But, if I things not too interesting out there. Then, I like to use my notepad to save myself from boredom.

I prefer to use it instead of my smartphone when being at a place where I have access to Wi-Fi because I feel more productive and look cooler when using it. Here are some of the activities that I like to do:

  • Tic Tac Toe
  • Battleship
  • Drawing
  • Writing short stories and fiction plots

Not having to worry about the commitments and chores of being an adult for a couple of hours does miracles in one’s creative side. My hands urge me to use them. And thankfully, I have access to the key item to fight them back.

Final thoughts

In the end, a notepad is a handy tool that can be implemented in your everyday activities. No matter what you do, there are endless applications for it. You will be ready for the moment when a bright idea strikes or when given information that might come in handy later. Notepads are very flexible, and in the right hands, they might become life-changing.

Ideas generally come to us when we are not trying to think about them. The brain excels at producing thoughts when you are busy doing something else. Thus, it is hard to predict when a life-changing idea is going to knock your attention. And that thought is what inspires me to take my notepad everywhere.

Just as the famous saying goes, “better safe than sorry.” I like to be safe, but what about you?
