You won’t stand out if you write generic stories

I am tired of reading stories that seem like mere copies of each other. They are missing flavor. What am I referring to with “flavor”? I am talking about the author’s piece of soul that goes in his or her writing. I love seeing writers giving everything on every word. I want to see more writers going wild, letting their imagination take control of their hands. Thus, allowing them to create unique pieces.

You get glimpses of who they are. While reading, you can tell what they like and their thoughts. Yes, it’s nothing like meeting them in person. But, you can create a mental image of them with what they provide you.

What many are missing

After reading many stories about “how to improve your writing skills” I’ve noticed something interesting. Very few of them emphasize your style of writing. The only thing that will make you stand out from the crowd.

Every single one of us is different. Let us take advantage of that. When you write a story about a popular subject, your audience wants to know more about it, but a part of them wants to know your thoughts, too.

If your story follows the same template as others. And you can read it the same way as others. What does incentivize the readers to choose you?

Yeah, the title and the image that you choose for your story play a huge role. Also, does the content of your story. After the first few paragraphs, if you haven’t captured the attention of your audience. They will lose interest. They’ll look for another story with better writing. One that spices things up.

Spicing things up

The source material can be the same for many stories. Yet, many can feel vastly different from others. It all comes down to how the author decides to showcase information to their audience. The author gives them reasons to stay.

So, what can you do to impress your audience? First, you need to grab their attention. And the most effective way to do this is through your introduction. You must write an introduction that awakens the curiosity of your audience. Fortunately, there is not a single proven way to do this. If that wasn’t the case many stories would feel so bland from the very beginning.

Thus, you can feel free to start the introduction however you please. Just keep in mind how your audience would react to your introduction. That is why you must create a “hook”, something to keep the interest of your audience. Try different introductions. And review them as many times as needed, till you have found the perfect one. That is half the battle, though.

The other half is the way you keep incentivizing them to continue reading. Don’t present only the information, share some of your thoughts, crack a joke when appropriate, further elaborate. Those things will keep your audience intrigued. These will encourage them to continue till the end. If a story is good, why wouldn’t you want to finish reading it?

In the end, don’t fear to write down your thoughts and feeling on a subject. These will help your story stand out from the sea of generic stories. Please do not hold back, give your all on each word you write. I want to see more authors spicing things up, going wild. Common, let’s make this happen.

Don’t forget to have fun!
